Annapolis to a doctorate, by way of everyone who bet on him.
In 2012 Trevor Queen became the first Gates Millennium Scholar from Annapolis, Maryland. It was a full ride, and in his words it completely changed my life.
He was a first-generation college student, which meant learning the rules of the room at the same time as everyone else was already playing by them. Morehouse, then Columbia, then a PhD at UCLA. Along the way the usual thing happened: people kept trying to put him in one lane, and he kept declining.
Today he is COO and Executive Producer at Dynamic Experiences, an international event management and experiential company — high-touch production, experiential marketing and custom travel. He also manages artists and influencers, and consults with founders on brand and marketing.
The through-line is not the résumé. It is that he studies how organisations change and then goes and changes them, in rooms, on deadlines, with real budgets. That combination is rarer than either half.
